수동

좀 더 과감한 버젼은, 당신이 자신의 소프트웨어를 사용하는게 아니라 아예 직접 소프트웨어가 되는 방법입니다. 아주 적은 숫자의 유자만 존재하면, 나중에 자동화를 할지라도 당장에는 수동으로 서비스해서 넘길 수 있습니다. 이건 더 빨리 출시하는 데에 유리하며, 나중에 자동화를 진행할 때에는 정확하게 뭘 만들어야 할지 아는 데에 도움이 되는데, 왜냐하면 직접 해본 기억이 있기 때문입니다.

수동화된 부분이 유저들에게는 소프트웨어로 보이면, 이 기술에는 장난스러운 요소들이 가미될 수 있습니다. 예를 들자면, Stripe는 첫 유저들에게 "즉각적으로" 소매업 계정을 전달했는데, 사실은 뒤에서 전통적인 방법으로 소매업 계정을 수동 등록하고 있었습니다.

어떤 벤처는 처음에 완전히 수동일 수도 있습니다. 만약 어떤 사람에게 해결되어야 하는 문제가 존재하고 당신이 해결할 수 있다면, 최대한 오랫동안 그걸 한 다음에 점진적으로 병목(bottleneck)을 해소하는 방법을 자동화하면 됩니다. 처음에 유저들의 문제를 자동화되지 않은 방법으로 해소하는게 좀 무서울 수 있지만, 훨씬 더 흔한 경우인 자동화됐지만 아무의 문제도 해결하지 못하는 것보다는 훨씬 덜 무서울 겁니다.
